Buy Hybrid & Electric Vehicles in the Seacoast Area
Buyers in the Seacoast Area and beyond hear a lot about electrified vehicles, whether "pure" electric, hybrid or plug-in hybrid. There are advantages to each but there are also plenty of concerns about the lack of charging stations, the far greater time required to charge an electric and about electric reliability. At Hampton Hyundai, we understand and want to help you evaluate the upsides and downsides of these new forms of fuel.
A good example: The 2022 Tucson Hybrid
As you undoubtedly know, a hybrid has a gas-powered engine with an electric motor. In the new Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, you get a respectable 226 combined horsepower. This, we believe, gives you the best of both worlds: The longer driving range of gas with the fuel efficiency of electric. While electric-only driving ranges average just 250 miles, the Tucson Hybrid tops 370 miles. Fuel efficiency is excellent at up to 38 mpg.
Compare the 2022 Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid
The plug-in variety lets you switch back and forth between gas and electric as you drive around Epping or Newburyport MA. Use all-electric for short trips to save on gas but remember that the electric-only driving range is just 33 miles. That's why the inclusion of a gas engine with a longer driving range is comforting.
Another comfort: The new Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid has regenerative braking which helps charge the battery. Every time you step on the brakes, the plug-in Tucson sends the electric motor into reverse, which slows the car's wheels and turns the motor into an electric generator that charges the battery. This actually works best in stop-and-go driving. The net result is that the battery gets bits of energy often to help keep it charged.
The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid
Most of the advantages cited for the new Hyundai Tucson apply to all our Hyundai hybrids. For example, the gas + electric power source gives outstanding fuel economy and a longer driving range, so you're not as concerned about finding a charging station when you're far from York ME or Portsmouth, NH. The new Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid has standard All-Wheel-Drive and a roomy interior.
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid sedan
The new Hyundai Elantra Hybrid sedan makes you feel like you hit the jackpot in fuel efficiency, getting up to 53 mpg in cities and an amazing 56 mpg on highways. The four-cylinder gas engine produces only 139 horsepower but don't let that fool you. The Elantra has surprisingly strong acceleration, both from a full stop and when passing on the highway. The base price is in the low $20s, which beats most hybrids.
The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid sedan
If the Elantra's gas mileage sounds good, gas mileage in the new Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid will sound even better, squeezing-out up to 59 mpg. One of the most appealing aspects of the new Hyundai Ioniq is that, unlike a rival like the Toyota Prius, the Ioniq doesn't scream "I'm a quirky-looking hybrid." It looks and drives like a classic, stylish sedan.
The 2022 Hyundai Kona Full Electric
This is where you get into the idiosyncrasies of all-electric models so we want you to understand what you'd be signing up for. The good news is that the driving range for the new Hyundai Kona EV is a reasonable 258 miles. The not-so-good news is that this car requires a 220-volt home charger and nine hours to fully charge. There is a fast charger that gets the battery to 80% in about an hour: Not nearly as convenient as gas but a little more speed helps.
Pros and cons of hybrids and electric cars
As you may have heard, Consumer Reports gave Tesla its second-worst reliability rating, while Audi and VW electrics also scored low. It's why Hyundai quality and Hyundai's Best Warranty in America matter when you're in all-electric mode.
